Figured Grain That Makes a Statement

Some timber has presence. The grain on this panel rises in long, arched curves, known as cathedral grain, and flows down the board in rich walnut-style browns with darker streaks and lighter highlights. On a full-height wall, the pattern reads like fine furniture-grade timber, and the effect is warm, settled and clearly high-end.

Building a Luxury Lounge Wall

The room in our sample photo shows how a layered wall comes together. The same idea can be adapted to a lounge, villa living room or hotel lobby:

1. Start with full-height boards. Large boards in figured walnut give the wall its main color and character.
2. Add a second texture. A slatted or ribbed section beside the boards breaks up the surface and adds rhythm.
3. Introduce a contrast material. A stone-look panel, like the rock-textured feature in the photo, sets off the warm wood.
4. Finish with light. Concealed LED strips along the top and beside the stone panel bring out grain and texture after dark.

Lighting the Wall

Walnut-style grain is at its best under warm light. Warm white LED strips, around 2700K to 3000K, along the top of the wall or beside a feature panel bring out the red and gold notes in the grain without making it look flat. Avoid strong cool white light, which can make the brown look dull.

Corners and Curves

The foreground of our sample photo shows an outside corner where two boards meet at a right angle with a slim light profile along the edge. At the corner, the back of the board can be grooved for a crisp fold, or the board can be heated and bent for a rounded edge. Using the same board around the corner keeps the grain continuous, which is a hallmark of high-end joinery.

Where It Fits

Villa living rooms, hotel lobbies, private lounges, executive offices and high-end showrooms all suit this finish. With lengths up to 3 m, one board can often run the full wall height, so the grain flows uninterrupted from floor to ceiling.

More Deep Wood Tones

If you want a different depth, the wood grain series includes deeper shades such as burmese rosewood, mid tones such as antique oak and yellow oak, and lighter woods such as birch and solid wood.

Care and Ratings

The board is E0 grade for environmental performance and B1 grade for flame retardancy, which suits both homes and commercial interiors. The surface resists moisture and cleans with a soft, damp cloth.
