The PU Nine-Grid Geometric Wall Panel belongs to the PU Geometry Series. It uses high-density polyurethane (PU resin) as the core material, and can be added with glass fiber (5-15%) to enhance rigidity or aluminum hydroxide flame retardant to achieve Class A2 fire resistance according to project needs. The surface is covered with a functional coating, supporting various treatments such as UV high-gloss/matte, metal wire drawing, wood grain transfer printing, stone grain imitation, and anti-static.
Different from traditional foamed PU decorative panels, this product has a flexural strength of ≥80MPa, a water absorption expansion rate of ≤0.3%, a sound insulation performance of ≥35dB, and a temperature resistance range of -40°C to 120°C. Project Background
The Louis Vuitton Qiantai Taikoo Li flagship store in Shanghai completed its second-phase interior upgrade in 2024. As a key image store for the brand in mainland China, it needed to maintain a luxurious character while incorporating modern building materials and sustainable design principles. The original walls used traditional wood veneer and stone dry-hanging, which had two issues: some areas did not meet the brand's latest global fire safety standards (requiring A2 rating), and the fixed display layout could not accommodate the flexibility needed for seasonal product changes. The brand sought a high-strength, lightweight, A2 fire-rated, and rapidly reconfigurable wall system.
Solution Selection
After extensive comparison, the project team selected PU Hollow Brick geometric panels (model D005, size 1200×600×30 mm). The surface finish was a matte metallic gray UV coating, aligning with LV's signature gray metal accents and industrial design language. Key performance criteria met:
- Flexural strength ≥80 MPa, capable of supporting heavy display racks and LED flexible screens.

Installation Process
The construction area included the ground floor women's section feature wall, the second floor men's section atrium column cladding, and the VIP room full wall – a total of approx. 520 m². The installation team laid magnetic metal base frames on the existing flat walls, then directly attached the PU panels magnetically. Panels were butted with gaps ≤1 mm. The modular 9-grid geometry matched the store's facade module, requiring no on-site cutting. The work was carried out in two phases with nightly operations, completing all installation in just 8 nights without disrupting daytime store activity.
Results & Feedback
After completion, the walls present a regular semi-three-dimensional geometric array. Under lighting, the metallic gray coating produces subtle gradients that visually echo LV's classic stack of trunks. The merchandising team reported that the magnetic mounting system allows them to adjust display fixtures quarterly – simply remove panels with suction cups, reposition the magnetic bases, and reattach – without damaging the walls. One year after opening, the panels show no scratches, fading, or detachment. The project was nominated for the 2024 Asia-Pacific Luxury Retail Space Green Innovation Award.
