PS Wall Panels Complete Guide: From Material to Installation, One Article to Understand Everything
When choosing a wall finish, latex paint cracks, wallpaper gets moldy, tiles are expensive, and solid wood swells. Is there a material that avoids all these problems? Yes – PS wall panels.
PS wall panels have become very popular in both residential and commercial projects in recent years. But what exactly are they? Where do they work best? How are they installed? This article answers the most common questions about PS wall panels.
1. What Are PS Wall Panels?
PS stands for polystyrene – a common thermoplastic. You’ve seen it in yogurt cups, CD cases, and foam takeout boxes.
But PS wall panels are not that cheap “plastic-looking” material. Through film printing and hot embossing, they replicate wood grain, marble, fabric textures, and even 3D patterns, while keeping the lightweight, waterproof, and eco-friendly properties of PS.
Two common types of PS panels:
Solid PS panel – Higher density, stiffer. Good for flat accent walls.
Foamed PS panel – Small air pockets inside, lighter, offers some sound and thermal insulation.

2. 6 Key Advantages of PS Wall Panels
- Ultra-light, one person can carry it
A 2400×600mm panel weighs only 2–4 kg. Easy to move upstairs. One person can install 20–30 square meters in a day. - Waterproof and non-swelling
PS does not absorb water. Even in humid environments, it won’t deform, mold, or peel. Works well in bathroom dry zones, basements, and kitchens. - No formaldehyde, eco-friendly and safe
No formaldehyde or benzene is used in raw materials or production. Safe to move in immediately – no irritating smells. Suitable for homes with children or elderly. - Scratch-resistant surface
High-quality PS panels have a clear wear layer. Daily scratches, kid’s drawings, or pet claws won’t leave noticeable marks. - Some acoustic and thermal insulation
Foamed PS panels absorb some noise and reduce heat loss through walls in winter. Better than wallpaper or latex paint, though not a professional acoustic material. - Wide variety of styles
From classic wood grain and marble to modern grille, fluted, 3D wave, fabric, leather, and cement grey – almost any decorative style is available.

3. PS Panels vs. Other Materials
| Comparison | PS Panel | Latex Paint | Wallpaper | Ceramic Tile | Solid Wood Paneling |
| Water / moisture resistance | Excellent | Poor | Very poor | Excellent | Poor |
| Installation difficulty | Easy (DIY) | Hard (needs tools) | Moderate (needs flat wall) | Very hard (wet work) | Hard (professional) |
| Cost per m² | Low | Low | Low to mid | Mid to high | High |
| Formaldehyde | None | VOCs present | Glue contains | None | None (but finish may) |
| Lifespan | 5–8 years | 3–5 years | 2–4 years | 10+ years | 10+ years |
| DIY-friendly? | Yes | Hard | Barely | No | No |
4. Where to Use PS Panels
Residential
- Living room TV feature wall (marble or 3D embossed)
- Bedroom headboard wall (fabric or leather look – warm, not cold)
- Kitchen backsplash (waterproof, easy to clean, oil-resistant)
- Behind bathroom vanity (dry zone, easier to maintain than tiles)
- Kids’ room (formaldehyde-free, scratch-resistant)
Commercial
- Cafés and bubble tea shops (grille or fluted panels – great for photos)
- Clothing stores and showrooms (quick renovation, no business shutdown)
- Hotel guest rooms and corridors (luxury stone look at lower cost)
- Office reception background walls (enhances image)

5. DIY Installation in a Nutshell
One of the biggest selling points of PS panels is the low installation barrier. Here’s the general process:
- Prepare the wall– Clean and as flat as possible. Remove old wallpaper and loose paint.
- Cut– Score the back with a utility knife or saw, then snap. Measure corners carefully.
- Apply adhesive– Use neutral silicone in dots or an S-shape on the back. Important: Do not use acidic or alkaline adhesives – they will corrode PS.
- Mount– Press the panel onto the wall and level with a spirit level. Leave a 1–2mm natural gap between panels.
- Secure and seal gaps– Use painter’s tape to hold for 24 hours. Fill gaps with color-matched neutral anti-mold silicone or add metal edge trims.
One person can install 15–30 square meters per day, depending on the complexity of the space.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: Where is your factory located?
A: Our company is located at No. 10-1 Lianhong Road, Yuanhua Town, Haining City, Zhejiang Province, China.
Q2: Are PS wall panels fire-resistant?
A: Pure PS is combustible, but commercial PS panels usually contain flame retardants and can reach EN13501 Class B or C – self-extinguishing. Suitable for residential and general commercial use, but avoid installing directly behind a gas stove or near open flames.
Q3: Can I install PS panels directly inside the shower area?
A: We recommend using them only in dry zones. The shower area has long-term high heat, high humidity, and direct water spray – although the PS panel itself is waterproof, the joints and silicone seal may fail over time. Tiles are still the better choice for the wet area.
Q4: How long do PS panels last? Will they become brittle after a few years?
A: High-quality virgin-material PS panels will last 5–8 years in normal indoor conditions without significant embrittlement. Recycled-material panels do become brittle – that’s why it’s important to confirm virgin material when purchasing.
Q5: I’m a homeowner doing a small renovation – only 10–15 square meters. Can you ship that amount?
A: Yes. One carton minimum (about 10–20 square meters). We can also pre-cut the panels to your provided dimensions – ready to install right out of the box.
Q6: How can I tell virgin material from recycled material?
A: Look at the back color – virgin material is milky or off-white; recycled material is gray or dull. Bend it – virgin material is flexible; recycled is brittle and makes a cracking sound or breaks easily. You can also ask the seller for a small sample to test yourself.
